View answered requests for beetle ID
|
On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Species, family:
Calathus ambiguus
Carabidae
Comment: Hi Peter with the big J, why does the flag show German and you're speaking English??? ;-) Your beetle is Calathus ambiguus. In heath land you usually find Calathus melanocephalus and cinctus (everyone can see, that it is none of these two species) and Calathus ambiguus and C. erratus. Those species are close together and can easily get mixed up. Calathus erratus is a bit more slim and a bit darker black, whereas C. ambiguus is a bit wider and black, but somehow more brownish in colour. Best regards, klaas
