Request: Heverlee, Belgium, 9 Feb 2014, in decaying wood from dead tree; 2.8 mm; Tottenham's 1954 key (UK) results in Magarthrus sinuaticollis (form of the pronotum margin); Coleonet on the other hand leads to M. depressus with the same characteristics, but the key does not mention sinuaticollis. A taxonomic revision issue? Thanks for help!

Comment: Hi Johan, excellent shot again! For that (and only that) reason I worked my way through Megarthrus. The genus has been revised in the Palearctic in 1997. In that course, M. depressus (sensu FHL) became M. prosseni; M. franzi became M. stercorarius. And M. sinuaticollis (sensu FHL) was first renamed to M. sinuatocollis, then to M. depressus. Finally M. affinis became M. bellevoyei. And voila: Babylonian confusion! ;-) You might want to read the full revision by Cuccodoro and Löbl, J. Nat. Hist. 1997, 31, 1347-1415, so it's only 69 pages, very easy and diverting to read. Finally, I think your specimen is M. depressus, as indicated by coleo-net's key, which represents the latest taxonomic status.
