On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Pego
Species, family:
Onthophagus cf. coenobita
Scarabaeidae
LG, Christoph

Request: Found in Romania between 27.05.13 and 31.05.13 Every beetles was found on sunny meadows. I will be thankful for any suggestions or possibilities (it helps me to learn about important details of species body). In Fagarasian Mountains, about 1900 m.a.s.l.
Species, family:
Amara cf. erratica
Carabidae
Comment: Hello Inja, the genus is Amara, but than it becomes hard ... The specimen imposes with black legs (tibia as dark as femur) and black antennae (even the first segment of the antenna seems to be black). If found in the central alps I would have determined the specimen to Amara erratica or Amara nigricornis. Since I am not aware of any other Amara similar to these two species, occuring in Romania, I would keep it as Amara spec., tentatively putting it to Amara erratica. Of note, females are mostly of metallic coloration while males are entirely black. In general, Amara species are hard to determine based on picture. In most cases one needs the original specimen, sometimes even the genital apparatus. Hope the information are helpful. All the best, Oliver

Comment: Hi Inja, this should be a representative of genus Hemicrepidius, but a determination down to species level is impossible for the two species in question, H. niger und H. hirtus from dorsal perspective only. They can be distinguished by the shape of the prosternal apophysis. Regards, Christoph
