On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: This beetle I found on 02.12.2017. in the trap in my yard in village Beli potok, near Belgrade (Serbia) at about 220 m ASL. Beetle was long about 5 mm, and which I note she had grey hue on the first half of elytras. I think she belong to Cholevidae family.

Comment: Hi Dendzo86, you're certainly right about the family (although they are now placed within Leiodidae as a subfamily). It should be genus Choleva but I'm not able to determine the species. These beetles don't lend themselves to photo idenfitications. Best regards, Moritz

Request: I found this beetle 11.07.2017. in the Beli potok village near Belgrade, Serbia. Beetle was long about 10 mm (maybe little smaller). Plant on which I found beetle is Daucus carota. Beetle was identified as Variimorda, and I found only Varrimorda species in Serbia is Variimorda villosa but I am not sure.

Request: I found this Trichius 11.07.2017. in the Beli potok village near Belgrade. For me this is Trichius sexualis. Only two species registered in Serbia are fasciatus and sexualis, and I think this is sexualis but I am not sure.

Comment: Hi Dendzo86, in this case I better stick with Trichius sp. It is not T. fasciatus, that is quite sure. However, the distribution pattern of T. zonatus looks pretty interesting, with a gap in a part of Southeast Europe, but present e.g. in Hungary and Romania. To determine T. sexualis, find a male and check the scales of the abdomen. Best regards, Christoph

Request: Dieser Stenus sollte zur Untergattung Parastenus gehören. Könnte es Stenus geniculatus sein? Das ist laut FHL eine Heideart, was zum Fundort passt. Hat die Oberseite einen Metallschimmer? Die Länge von ca. 4,8mm schließt eigentlich schon die meisten Arten aus. Stenus impressus wär vielleicht auch möglich. An Totholz, 28.07.2017

Request: Die Bilder sind nicht herausragend, aber nach Fotovergleich komme ich auf Hydrochus angustatus. Die anderen Arten scheinen mehr oder weniger deutlich gerippte Flügeldecken zu haben und auch weniger länglich zu sein. Den Käfer hatte ich aus einem kleinen Gewässer (Tümpel wäre schon fast zu viel gesagt) gefischt, da ich zunächst dachte, dass er tot wäre. Ca. 3mm, 28.07.2017

Comment: Hallo zimorodek, du hast Recht, das sollte in der Tat Hydrochus angustatus sein. Auf den Elytren befindet sich noch ein Wasserfilm, weshalb ich die Gestalt der Flügeldeckenzwischenräume leider nicht wirklich beurteilen kann. Aber vom Habitus, Halsschild, Färbung, etc. sollte H. angustatus vertretbar sein. Danke für die Meldung.
