On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: Lagria atripes ?
Location : Belgium, Genk
Date : 04-06-2016
Length : Approx 10mm
They told me that difference between the 2 species has something to do with the eyes. How deep they lay in proportion with the base of the antenna. But I think I still don't see it. So I hope you can help.
Best regards,
Johan
Species, family:
Lagria atripes
Lagriidae
Comment: Hi verstraeten, in this case I can just determine the genus Lagria. I distunguish them from the ration length:width of the pronotum, which requires a photo from straight above. Best regards, Christoph Pronotum is a bit more shiny, so this one is Lagria atripes. The difference in the eyes can be seen, but not on this photo. The eyes of both species are emarginate in the middle. The antennae arises within this emargination. In hirta this emargination is separating the eye more or less to the middle, in atripes it is separating the eyes around 3/4, which you can see by taking a photo from the sides (right side, right eye, left side, left eye) with the antennae stretched to the front, so it does not cover the eyes. At least, beginning of June is a good hint for atripes, but rarely hirta starts to appear before atripes clears out. Best regards, Klaas

Request: Hi,
