The false darkling beetles (Melan­dryidae) are oblong to oval, small to medium-sized beetles. The species are found under the bark of old trees and on branches which are overgrown with fungi. Some species are also found on flowers. Worldwide approx. 1200 species in 100 genera have been described, thereof 32 species from Germany.
