The pin-hole borers (Platy­podidae) are oblong, cylindric beetles. They develop in various woods, where they excavate tunnels in which they cultivate fungal gardens, their sole source of nutrition. Worldwide approx. 1000 species have been described, only two of them are known to occur in Germany.
