Most of the species (adults and larvae) are useful predators of aphids, others are herbivorous, a few of them considered as pests. Worldwide approx. 6000 species in 370 genera have been described, thereof 80 species from Germany. Many species exhibit a considerable variability in their elytral color patterns.
