The marsh beetles (Scirtidae) are mostly found on the vegetation alongside rivers and brooks. The larval development takes place in the water. The larvae feed on fungi, algae, diatoms and other organic matter. Worldwide some 1000 species in 36 genera have been described, thereof 25 species from Germany.
