the time has come, our inquiry module has gone offline. I have adapted our portal page and other pages accordingly.

Over the past two weeks, we have received a lot of feedback from you. Despite the sadness over the end of our identification service, our team has taken away a lot of positive things: For almost twelve years, we have created a place on kerbtier.de where enthusiasm and inspiration for nature observation were sparked, where knowledge was expanded and shared. Despite the lack of direct communication, a sense of unity has developed. And many of our regular users have gained solid beetle knowledge.

For now, we have reached the end of our journey here. But I encourage you to continue, to use what you have learned here! Observe, photograph, document, report your findings on other portals! For that, I and the entire admin team wish you all the best and always exciting and beautiful beetle discoveries. Stay healthy and safe!

Dear users,

I regret to inform you that the inquiry module on kerbtier.de will be closed on November 15th, 2023.

You have probably noticed over the past few months that our admin team has been gradually shrinking. Consequently, it is taking longer and longer for us to respond to queries, and we have found ourselves unable to provide specific species identifications for numerous animals, only being able to classify them as "sp.". Unfortunately, our attempts to recruit new admins for the team over the past two years have been unsuccessful. Given our limited free time, the remaining team members and I, as the webmaster, can no longer sustainably manage the workload. It is with a heavy heart that I have made the decision to discontinue the inquiry module on kerbtier.de.

All inquiries that have been previously submitted will be preserved and remain searchable for reference and comparison purposes. I would like to encourage all of our active users to share their discoveries on iNaturalist going forward. I hope that you will receive prompt and high-quality species identifications there, just as we have always strived for on kerbtier.de.

On a personal note, I want to emphasize that this decision was not made lightly. After 12 years, thousands of hours of dedicated work, tens of thousands of lines of self-written program code, and the answering of over a quarter of a million inquiries, kerbtier.de and its inquiry module have become deeply meaningful to me. I deeply regret having to take this step, especially for our power users who have made immense contributions to our project through thousands of inquiries and records. I hope for your understanding.

I'd like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have made valuable contributions in the past few years. My appreciation goes out to my colleagues from the admin team, and naturally, a special thanks to our users, including those who have remained loyal to us for an extended period of time.
