View answered requests for beetle ID
|
On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Species, family:
cf. Oedemeridae sp.
Oedemeridae

They've just cut down the trees on that place and it was on a limestone slope
Thier De Lanaye, Belgium
Species, family:
Leistus spinibarbis

Comment: Hello verstraeten, this beetle belongs to the genus Leistus within the family Carabidae. For me it looks like Leistus spinibarbis, but the image is not optimal. Mayby somebody else should confirm. Cheers, Oliver

LG, Christoph

Request: There where three individuals of this species on the wall of our house in Belgium, Antwerp (19.03.2014).
I tried to determine them myself, but I didn't succeed because of the great number of, to me, similar species ... ;)
Species, family:
Atheta sp.
Staphylinidae
Comment: Hi Joachim, a representative of subfamily Aleocharinae. No chance for me to get this determined by photo. Regards, Christoph But a genus determination is possible! Best regards, Thomas

Request: Hi, size 2,5-3mm, Slovakia, 22.3.2014
Species, family:
Bothrideres bipunctatus
Bothrideridae
Comment: Hi cilko, wow, that is Bothrideres bipunctatus! Eurosiberian species, from Central Europe to Italy, Greece and Syria, in the East to Siberia. In Europe a relic of primeval forests, on old deciduous trees (oak, beech, willow, poplar). Larvae predaceous under the bark of these trees. Generally scattered and very rare. Outstanding discovery! Best regards, Christoph But the species is not that rare in Slovakia and other Eastern European parts as in the Central. Best regards, Thomas

Request: Hello! I think that the family of this scarab is Tenebrionidae and the species "Akis granulifera", do you agree?
I have too, one video of other exemplar of this species (I think) in the sand...
(Lagoa de Albufeira, Portugal - 15.02.2014)
Species, family:
Tentyria sp.
Tenebrionidae
Comment: Hi MiguelBk, the family is correct, it is Tenebrionidae. Have a look at the rear edges of the elytra: They are sharp and pointed in Akis, but completely round here. I think it is a representative of genus Tentyria. But I can't provide a determination to species level. Regards, Christoph The genus is the right one - but an ID would be only possible with the specimen itself. Best regards, Thomas

23/3/14
Species, family:
Silvanus unidentatus

Comment: Hi Joao,
this is a member of the family Silvanidae, most likely genus Silvanus. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the Portuges fauna, and thus do not dare attempt to determine it on species level.
Regards, Michael This is a specimen of Silvanus unidentatus - it is a hunter under the bark of trees. Best regards, Thomas

Porto, Portugal
Species, family:
Hyperinae sp.
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi onlyricardo, this representative of the family Curculionidae (weevils), but I'm hestitant to say more than this. In the Portuguese fauna there are too many species I'm not an expert in. Regards, Christoph This is possibly a Donus species - but in any case a specimen out of the subfamily Hyperinae, or the tribe Hyperini. These weevils are all hard to determinate in Southwest Europe. Best regards, Thomas

Request: Hello, the species is Physomeloe corallifer yes?
(Pancas/Lezíria, Portugal - 23.03.2014)
Species, family:
Physomeloe corallifer
Meloidae
Comment: Dear MiguelBk, I'm afraid we can't help. We don't know the fauna of Portugal and family Meloidae shows a number of species in Portugal we don't know. Watching that beetle as Meloe s.l. we've got no chance to identify. I would try, but not on the photo, but at the beetle. I can't see enough in photos to identify down to species. The beetle itself I could possibly pass over to some expert. Sorry. Best regards, Klaas Hello MiguelBk, you lucky one - yes, this is Physomeloe corallifer! It is endemic to Portugese mainland and Spain. Not that rare but a beautiful species. Best regards, Thomas

Request: Grüezi, an der Hauswand, um 4mm, Pochkäfer: Ernobius mollis? CH-Wattwil SG, 750m NN, 25.03.14. Danke für die Expertenmeinung. LG, Urs
Species, family:
Ernobius cf. mollis
Anobiidae
LG, Christoph

Species, family:
Apionidae sp.
Apionidae
Comment: Hi Jozef, keine Chance.

In diesem Fall Abax parallelepipedus. Viele Grüße, klaas
