On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: Garten in Johannisberg, ca. 175 m NN, 19.4.2014, Größe ca. 4 mm.
Species, family:
Crepidodera plutus
Chrysomelidae
LG, Christoph

Request: Chrysomelidae... Can the name been more specific? Luc
Species, family:
Phratora cf. vulgatissima
Chrysomelidae
Comment: Hi Lucgast, I think it schould be Phratora vulgatissima, one of the few Phratora sp. that can be determined by photo. The 2nd and 3rd article of the antennae have the same length. Some residual unvertainty remains. Best regards, Christoph

Comment: Oi João, as you undoubtedly know already, it is a Lixus sp. But the photo does not provide enough detail to even try to get it solved. Therefore I leave it with Lixus sp. LG, Christoph

Request: Hallo zusammen,
An Asteraceen. LG, Christoph

Species, family:
cf. Dailognatha sp.
Tenebrionidae

LG, Christoph

Request: Lytta vesicatoria??
Valongo, Porto, Portugal
19/4/14
Species, family:
Lytta vesicatoria
Meloidae
Comment: Oi João, that's it, Lytta vesicatoria, the so called Spanish Fly. It's body fluids contain a fair amount of Cantharidin, a toxic and powerful vesicant. It is claimed to have aphrodisiac properties. Unfortunately the effective and deadly dose are very close together. Lucullus, the Roman commander and gourmet (118 - 56 BC) is said to have died from an overdose of Spanish Fly, intended to "refresh" his virility. Best regards, Christoph - PS: Photo B shows a couple. Before mating they exhibit a very special courtship behaviour you might like to observe!

Species, family:
Curculio salicivorus
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi Sommerlutz, this should be Curculio salicivorus (or Archarius salicivorus nowadays). North Africa, Europe, to Siberia. On willow, where the larvae develop in the galls of sawflies of genus Pontiana. A similar species is Curculio pyrrhoceras, but the latter is found on oak. Regards, Christoph

Request: Deutschland, Saarland, Bexbach, 19.
