On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: Hi,
LG, Christoph

Request: Pyrochroa coccinea ?
Date : 09-11-2018
Length : 25mm
Location : Mixed forest, Rochefort, Belgium
Is there a difference between the larva of Pyrochroa coccinea and Pyrochroa serraticornis that you can see on photo?
Best regards
Species, family:
Pyrochroa serraticornis
Pyrochroidae
Comment: Hallo verstraeten, this one Looks more like Pyrochroa serraticornis. The difference between the two is quite hard to see. Pyrochroa serraticornis has parallel Urogomphi (the two horns at the end of the larva), while those of Pyrochroa coccinea are more diverging. The best way to separate the two is, if you see a line dividing the last yellow segment in a smaller upper part and a longer lower part. If this line is present it is serraticornis. With some phantasy visible in your picture quite well here: 58164 If the larva is longer than 2.5 cm the length of the last antenna segment can also help, longer than 2nd in coccinea, shorter in serraticornis. Viele Grüße, Holger
