On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: Beetle found in Czech mountains (Hruby Jesenik), forest around Praded.
Species, family:
Otiorhynchus niger
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi Inja, I think this should be Otiorhynchus niger. O. sensitivus is out, because your specimen does not exhibit a flattend apex of the elytra, O. fusicpes can also be excluded (elytra to deeply "embossed"). South and Central Europe, montane to subalpine, in the herbal layer. Regards, Christoph - PS: Photo C is a different species: please submit separately

Species, family:
Polydrusus mollis
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi Inja, that's the weevil Polydrusus mollis. Common throughout Europe. Eurytopic, arboricolous. Beetle on deciduous trees and shrubs. Larger (6 - 9,5 mm) than the similar sister species P. pallidus (4,3 - 5,3 mm). The latter lives on coniferous trees. Regards, Christoph

LG, Christoph

Species, family:
Barynotus obscurus

Comment: Hi Inja, this should be Barynotus obscurus. Polyphagous, nocturnal, quite common in Central Europe. There are a few other Barynotus sp. in Poland, but they can be excluded given your photos. Regards, Christoph - PS: Photos B and C show different species, please submit them separately

Species, family:
Lixus iridis
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi Inja, this should be Lixus iridis, which is known to occur in Portugal. On photos it might be confused with L. mucronatus, which is less elongate. On Umbelliferae (Cicuta, Conium, Sium). From Europe to East Asia. Regards, Christoph
