On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: Caught this one on light in Lheebroek, the Netherlands, on 21.07.2014. I think it's an Aphoius, maybe A. fossor?
Species, family:
Aphodius rufipes

Comment: Hi Leon, I think this is Aphodius rufipes. Cosmopolitan. In late summer and autumn and dung from different species, including cattle, horse and wild game. I leave this for a second opinion in the admin area. Best regards, Christoph

Species, family:

Request: Hello. Oedemera virescens (male) is correct? 19.5.2014, Slovakia, Kosice. Regards.
Species, family:
Oedemera sp.
Oedemeridae
Comment: Hi Karol, with the thickened rear femora this is a male of O. virescens or O. monticola. They can't be distinguished by photo without a reliable measurement of the body length. Best regards, Christoph

Request: Found this one on July 22 near Schoonloo, the Netherlands. I guess it's an Aphodius, am I right and is there anything more to say about it?
Species, family:
Aphodius sp.
Scarabaeidae
Comment: Hi Leon, here we need a foto from the lower side to judge the color of the abdomen (black or red). Abdomen red: A. foetens. Abdomen black: A. fimetarius or A. pedellus. The latter two can be only distinguished by inspection of the genitals. And that only with difficulty. Regards, Christoph

Regards.
Species, family:
Denticollis linearis
Elateridae
Comment: Hi Karol, this should be Denticollis linearis. Very common in forests at this time of the year. Europe w/o the Mediterranean region, to West Asia, planar to subalpine. Quite variable in coloration. There is a very similar species, D. interpositus, but it can be excluded by the antennae and sculpture of the pronotum. Regards, Christoph

Species, family:
Dasytes sp.
Melyridae
Comment: Hi Karol, this is a representative of genus Dasytes, but as I usually do not dare to determine Dasytes sp. from Germany to the species level, I won't do it even less so in case of specimen from Slovakia. Sorry & best regards, Christoph

Request: Huhu!

Du zollst mir also Wertschätzung, was ich zu schätzen weiß. ;-) In diesem Fall hast Du, entgegen Deiner Restbefürchtungen, Recht.

Also ein schöner Nachweis. Viele Grüße, Klaas
