View answered requests for beetle ID
|
On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Ok so? Lieben Dank und Gruß
Species, family:
Pterostichus melanarius
Carabidae
Comment: Hallo Kalli, bestätigt als Weibchen von Pterostichus melanarius. Danke für die Meldung. LG, Christoph

Request: Laufkäfer Pterostichus strenuus ca. 7 mm vom 03.09.2014, gefunden am Broicher Weiher. Vielen Dank
Species, family:
Pterostichus strenuus
Carabidae

Request: Found in my garden a few years ago ( 09/07/2010 I think as this is photo date) just found your site and hoped you could tell me what it is, also curious about the casing it came out from! I found it on the leaf of a coltsfoot plant and my location is Northumberland in the UK. Thanks.
Species, family:
Hyperini sp.
Curculionidae
Comment: Hello LauraC, this is a cocoon-weevil, genus Hypera (now Donus) or Donus (now Neoglanis). The larva built the cocoon, while feeding externally on the leaf - a rare exception for weevil larve, which mostly live and develop inside plants. The beetle on the photo had just recently hatched from the pupa. It had not yet established its adult staining pattern, and it is thus hardly possible to determine to species level. Unfortunately I do not know any species feeding on coltsfoot (Tussilago). Some species of the former genus Donus (now Neoglanis), feed on closely related Asteraceae (e.g. Petasites), but those are, to my knowledge, not recorded from the UK ... interesting. Best regards, Michael

Request: Datum 25.09.2014. Käfer wurde in der Garageneinfahrt gesehen.
Species, family:
Ocypus sp.
Staphylinidae
LG, Christoph

Request: Carabus problematicus
Photo : september 2014, Maasmechelen, Belgium
coniferous forest, pine tree
Species, family:
Carabus cf. violaceus
Carabidae
Comment: Hi verstraeten, I think this is the larva of Carabus violaceus. Some uncertainty remains but to the best of my knowledge, the larva of C. violaceus is the only one with a red head in our fauna. Regards, Christoph
