View answered requests for beetle ID
|
On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: Found 2020-08-29 11:56 in Belgium (ref 199244673). Length is 5.5 mm. Thank you!
Species, family:
Sciaphilus asperatus
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi Gert, it's Sciaphilus asperatus. Again, the length here is correctly measured as nearer to 5mm, as the snout or rostrum is dropped from length measurements of weevils. With this one it doesn't really make too much difference since it only has a short snout :). Best wishes, Corinna

Request: Found 2020-03-31 15:12 in Belgium (ref 187563082). Length is 3.5 mm. Thank you!
Species, family:
Acanephodus onopordi
Apionidae
Comment: Hi Gert, that's Acanephodus onopordi, usually found on thistles. By the way, since you mention the length of 3.5mm, that is indeed the entire length of the beetle including the rostrum. However, with weevils only, it's customary to measure the length from head to tail, ignoring the rostrum altogether. So, the correct size for this one is 2.5mm, from the front of the eyes to the hind tip of the abdomen. I've placed markers in Photo B, so you can see what I mean. Best wishes, Corinna

Request: ca. 8mm ohne Rüssel auf Cirsium vulgare, Larinus carlinae Fundort: Mühldorf a.Inn Lkr, Mühldorf n. Altmühldorf Kiesgrube 28.06.2020
Species, family:
Larinus cf. sturnus
Curculionidae
