On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: Hi, size 8-9mm, 30.4.2013. Slovakia
Species, family:
Donus sp.
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi Cilko in this row of Donus sp. I was initially tempted to say that this is Donus as well. But after considering a while, I think this could be Liophloeus tessulatus. Confusing... ;-) Maybe my Co-Admins like to comment. Regards, Christoph The longer I look at it, the more doubts I have. Donus or not Donus, that's the question. Christoph

Request: Hi, size 8-9mm, 30.4.2013, Slovakia
Species, family:
Athous sp.
Elateridae
Comment: Hi Cilko, I think this is a representative of genus Athous. There are quite a few species in this genus present in Slovakia which are not known from Germany. Therefore I refrain from a det to species level. Regards, Christoph

Request: Hi, size 15-17mm, 30.4.2013, Slovakia
Species, family:
cf. Mecaspis alternans
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi Cilko, this is again a difficult one. Tribus Cleonini for sure. I think that's most probably Mecaspis alternans, which is present in Slovakia as well. Literature (FHL) gives 7-14 mm body length (without snout). Regards, Christoph

Comment: Hi Cilko, from what I see from your pictures, I would say this is Phyllobius maculicornis. As mostly with these green guys, some uncertainty remains. Regards, Christoph

Sorry. LG, Christoph

Species, family:
Donus sp.
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi Cilko, this is a representative of genis Donus. This genus is difficult to determine by photo. On top of that the genus is quite speciose, especially in Southeast Europe. Let's stick to Donus sp. here. Regards, Christoph

Request: Hi, size 5-6mm, 30.4.2013, Slovakia
Species, family:
Alophus cf. triguttatus
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi Cilko, this should be Alophus triguttatus, nowadays called Graptus triguttatus. There are a few more species in Europe. I think in Slovakia there should be at least G. kaufmanni present. I still think A. triguttatus is correct, but some residual uncertainty remains. Regards, Christoph

Request: Found yesterday in Bielsko-Biała, Poland. Found on leaves of "pokrzywa" (Urtica dioica L.), length: about 1cm, maybe a little more.
Species, family:
Hoplia sp.
Scarabaeidae
Comment: Hi Inja, this should be a representative of genus Hoplia. Might be H. graminicola, but there are a few more species in Poland than in Germany and I don't dare to give a det on species level. Regards, Christoph

Species, family:
Halticinae sp.

Comment: Hi Inja, also this one doesn't ring a bell. I would need really high-res pictures, and even then I can't guarantee that we get much further with them. Regards, Christoph

Request: The larva was found in seasoning powder for salads.
Species, family:
Unknown
Comment: Hi Caio, no chance, a larva from a foreign fauna is definitely beyond what we can do. Common species in dried herbs are e.g. Ptinidae sp. If a adult specimen appears, that would help to narrow it down at least to family level. Regards, Christoph

:-) Was meint ihr? Geht es überhaupt bis zur Art? Ich danke vielmals! (30.04.2013, Terrasse)
Species, family:
Phyllobius sp.
Curculionidae
Comment: Hallo Vera, die kurze gedrungene Gestalt spricht dafür, die vorstehenden Augen sowie die Größe dagegen. Was tun sprach Zeus. Na, ganz einfach: Phyllobius sp. :-b LG, Christoph

Für di Nachbestimmung vielen Dank.
