On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Manfred

Request: Found in the garden (Izegem) 02/07/2015. I haven't trees in the garden, only Carpinus betulus.
Species, family:
Curculio venosus
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi Robbe, this is Curculio venosus (though not 100 % clear, since Curculio pellitusis similar but there are some prominent scales at the end of the elytra that are typical for venosus). That means there must be an oak somewhere around. Best regards, Holger

Request: 24.02.2016 in this nature reserve: [link removed]
Species, family:
Philonthus sp.
Staphylinidae
Comment: Hi Robbe, in this case we can just determine the genus Philonthus. There is several species with red marks on the Elytra, like cruentatus, varius, varias, etc. Exact identification is usually impossible. Best regards, Holger

Request: under a piece of wood
Species, family:
Cassida vibex/bergeali

Comment: Hi Robbe, there are two possible species, C. vibex and C. bergeali. By photo they can't be distinguished. They have different host plants (C. vibex on Carduus and Cirsium, C. bergeali on Centaurea). For determination, the aedoeagus of the male should be inspected. Regards, Christoph
