View answered requests for beetle ID
|
On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: 06.05.2017, Largish (approx 5mm) Stenus sp., found near ditch among Juncus etc. To me it looks like Stenus kiesenwetteri - abdomen sides without raised margins, 4th segment of tarsi bilobed, punctures on elytra strong but very sparse on distal end, bi-colored legs with sharp border of black etc. So everything kinda fits (except that it wasn't in Sphagnum bog), but I simply don't have enough experience with Stenus genus. Can there be some other options? Looks like it could be new species for Latvia. In recent years S.kiesenwetteri has been found also in Lithuania and Estonia (findings there are also outside of Sphagnum bogs) so it wouldn't be too surprising. Thanks in advance!
Species, family:
Stenus kiesenwetteri
Staphylinidae
Comment: Hi CerambyX, to the best of my knowledge, I would agree with Stenus kiesenwetteri. Best regards, Christoph
