View answered requests for beetle ID
|
On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: This Carabidae larvae I found 19.10.2017. under one stone in Beli potok near Belgrade. Someone told me Calosoma sp., and one man told me Carabus violaceus larva. I don't know really! And yes, larva was 24 mm long.
Species, family:
Carabus cf. violaceus
Carabidae
Comment: Hi Dendzo86, it is definitely a larva of the genus Carabus - in Central Europe the only species where the larva has a red head is indeed Carabus violaceus. However, I hva no knowledge weather there are additional species with red head on the Balkan peninsula, so there is some remaining insecurity. Best regards, Fabian It depends on your opinion to the genus of Megodontus. Most specialist in Carabidae consider Carabus violaceus as species and C. (violaceus) purpurascens and C. (violaceus) germari as subspecies of them. So in this case your Larvae would be Carabus violaceus. If those two subspecies are good species in your mind, this larvae could be Carabus violaceus, Carabus purpurascens or Carabus germari. Carabus purpurascens does not occur in Serbia, so there is only Carabus violaceus or Carabus germari possible. Depending on your opinion. ;-) Best regards, Klaas

Request: I found this rove beetle under one stone 15.10.2017. in Beli potok near Belgrade. Beetle was long 15 mm. Maybe Quedius fuliginosus?
Species, family:
Quedius sp.
Staphylinidae
Comment: Hi Dendzo86, in this case I can just determine the genus Quedius. I'm not even sure about the subgenus, eyes look a bit small for Quedius s. str I think. But even if it were that subgenus, I wouldn't be able to tell Q. fuliginosus and Q. curtipennis apart, besides there might be other species in Serbia that look like this. Best regards, Moritz

Species, family:

LG, Christoph
