On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: Guten Morgen!

Species, family:

Comment: Oi Isaias, sorry that we can't be of much help in this case, but the Portuguese weevil fauna is somewhat out of our area of expertise. The specimen reminds me of our genus Brachyderes or closely related, but I can't provide you with a determination in this case. Regards, Christoph

Species, family:
Chrysomela sp.
Chrysomelidae
Comment: Oi João, this is a representative of genus Chrysomela. There are not too many of these "all-red" species: C. Chrysomela populi, C. tremulae and C. saliceti. A photo of the apex of the elytra would help to identify C. populi, after that the shape of the pronotum, taken from straight above could do the rest. Regards, Christoph

Species, family:

Comment: Oi Isaias, this is the old-house borer, Hylotrupes bajulus. It develops in softwood, especially pine and can cause technical damage in wood constructions (e.g. roofs) in buildings. Originating from Europe, it has now a worldwide distribution, including the Mediterranean, South Africa, Asia, the US and Canada. Regards, Christoph
