On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: Hallo,
LG, Christoph

Request: Hello!! It's possible to know the specie or the genus?
Central Portugal - 04.10.2013
Note - I don't know how to put a comment. Is it possible? How can I comment the things that you wrote about my images? Thanks
Species, family:
Clytrinae sp.
Chrysomelidae
Comment: Hi Isaias, this is the larva from the family of the leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae), namely from subfamily Clytrinae. The larvae live in the nests of ants. A determination to species level is impossible for me, especially from the Portuguese fauna. Regards, Christoph - PS: Right now, commenting is not possible. If things need further discussion or clarification, please feel free to send us an email at any time.

LG, Christoph

From central Portugal

Species, family:
Lagria sp.
Lagriidae
Comment: Hi Isaias, this is a representative of genus Lagria. In Germany, that late in the year it would be (if at all) Lagria hirta. I'm not sure, whether there are more species in Portugal, that could be confused. At least in Europe there are a few more than only two like in our fauna. Regards, Christoph

Request: Found yesterday in South Poland (Beskid Niski). Mixed forest. Meloe sp. ?
Species, family:
Meloe rugosus
Meloidae
Comment: Hi Inja, this looks like Meloe rugosus to me. The appearance in late autumn, the square pronotum and the rugged sculpture of the elytra argue for M. rugosus. M. scabriusculus can become similar, but has shorter antennae (compare here). As usual for the Polish fauna: some residual uncertainty remains. Regards, Christoph

Request: Hi!
Fotodaten: 25.6.2013, Kroatien, Plitvicer Seen, 650m
Species, family:
Gonioctena decemnotata
Chrysomelidae
