View answered requests for beetle ID
|
On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: please identify this beetle collected from India. this is photographed on 5/5/2018. it is harmful in any way.
Species, family:
Calosoma maderae
Carabidae
Comment: Hi Vijay, this is a member of the genus Calosoma (in the old understanding). I don't think it is harmful, because these species usually prey on caterpillars. Did it bite you!? Then maybe... Best regards, Klaas Hi Vijay, apparently (and luckily) there are only 3 species of Calosoma present in India. Your specimen is a male of Calosoma (Campalita) maderae indicum. Best regards, Fabian
