On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Comment: Hallo Ilse, sehr schön! Das ist Lytta vesicatoria, ein Ölkäfer, auch Spanische Fliege genannt. Sie enthält in ihrer Hämolymphe das giftige und auf Haut und Schleimhäute reizend wirkende Cantharidin. Früher wurden getrocknete Spanische Fliegen als Aphrodisiakum eingesetzt, wobei wirksame und tödliche Dosis nahe beieinander liegen. Es heißt, dass der römische Feldherr und Tafelprotz Lukullus an einem überdosierten Trank spanischer Fliege starb, mit der er seine Potenz auffrischen wollte. Fehlt in Deutschland in den nördlichen Bundesländern. Habe ich in meiner Käferkarriere leider selbst noch nie gefunden. LG, Christoph
