On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Species, family:
Curculionidae sp.
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi Vera, Scheibenkleister! LG, Christoph

Comment: Hi Inja, a weevil of genus Otiorhynchus. They are very speciose especially in the mountain range of Southeast Europe. I do not dare to give a determination to species level just by photo. Maybe Erwin can say more... Regards, Christoph

Request: Found in Poland, nearby Zakopane, summer 2012. I know it's Oreina, and probably you can't say no more... :)
Species, family:
Oreina sp.

Comment: Hi Inja, yes, another Oreina. Impossible to determine just by photo. It requires dissection and examination of the aedoeagus of the male. Regards, Christoph

Request: Found in Poland, nearby Bielsko-Biała (spring 2012). I think it's Chrysolina rufa. Am I right ?
Species, family:
Chrysolina sp.
Chrysomelidae
Comment: Hi Inja, I can't really help with this one. It is genus Chrysolina, but not C. rufa. I don't know which species it is. The photos show to little to get to the species. I leave this for the others. Maybe one of them knows more. Regards, Klaas Same for me, I think we have to leave it with Chrysolina sp. Sorry! Regards, Christoph

Request: Found in Poland, nearby Bielsko-Biała (spring 2012), in my opinion it's Geotrupes silvaticus (i see a lot of little dots in his head, g. stercorarius has no dots, i think)
Species, family:
Anoplotrupes stercorosus
Geotrupidae
Comment: Hi Inja, more or less right. Wrong so far that this species is no longer genus Geotrupes, but genus Anoplotrupes, and since nearly 100 years it isn't named sylvatica anymore, but stercorosus (don't confuse with stercorarius, which is another species ;-) ). Regards, Klaas

Request: Found in Slovakia (summer 2012). I think it's Oreina, but which ?
Species, family:
Oreina sp.

Comment: Hi Inja, that's right, Oreina, but the same as it was with the other one: no species identification without dissection. Regards, Klaas

Request: Found in Switzerland, June 2012, on 1800 meters above sea level. Is that Oreina ?
Species, family:
Oreina sp.
Chrysomelidae
Comment: Hi Inja, in Switzerland it's getting real hind to identify those Oreina. You are right in identifying the genus, but without dissection there is no way to identify the species. Sorry. Regards, Klaas

Comment: Hi Inja, this is a Byturus species, which are common on flowering plants. There are only two species in the genus. They can be distinguished by the size of their eyes. Given the size/resolution of your photo I struggle to make a firm decision here. That's why I leave it with Byturus sp. Regards, Christoph

Request: 29.12.2012, 15.00, Käfer tot, von anderen Insekten befallen
Species, family:
Necrophorus investigator
Silphidae
Holarktisch verbreitet, an Aas. LG, Christoph PS: Best practice was die Fotos betrifft! So müssen Anfragen aussehen.

LG, Christoph

Datum: 4.5.2011; über Flurweg laufend.
Könnte das Calasoma inquisitor sein?
Danke und viele Grüße

Species, family:
Calosoma inquisitor

Fundort passt also perfekt ;-) LG, Christoph
