View answered requests for beetle ID

On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

2013-05-05 Heverlee, Belgium. I got stuck with Amara sp. (as usual). Any suggestion to get further? Many thank anyway!
Species, family:
Requests for species Amara cf. similata  Requests for family Carabidae
Comment:
Hi Johan, very hard to determine from the images. With a considerable portion of uncertainty I would tend to Amara similata. It seems that scutellar pores are present (image B), the elytral stripes appaer to be deeper to the end of the elytrae, which, together with the overall shape and colour could point to A.similata. For further requests, I would suggest to give at least an estimation of the size. Maybe one of the other admins adds some more info. Best regards, Oliver   I think Oliver has said everthing what can be said in this case. Regards, Christoph

Hi Tarrie, this is a species from the Family Byrrhidae, Genus Byrrhus. There are two species possible: Byrrhus fasciatus and Byrrhus pilula. Determination by foto is very difficult and in most cases impossible. Because of habit i tend to Byrrhus pilula, but I can't really exclude the other one - maybe Klaas can?! regards gernot
