View answered requests for beetle ID

On this page you can find photos submitted by users from the start in 2012 till the shutdown in 2023. If possible, the species are identified by the kerbtier.de ID team. Sometimes determination by photo only is impossible, in this case a hint on family and genus and potential species will be given.

Request: 28.6.13 Tiefenberg Kleiner Weichkäfer 800m
Species, family:
Malthinini sp.
Cantharidae
LG, Christoph

Request: Found last weekend in South Poland, at altitude about 750 meters. I think it is C. livida because of black part of legs and colour of antenna.
Species, family:
Cantharis pellucida
Cantharidae
Comment: Hi Inja, this should be Cantharis pellucida. Both coloration of the legs and head (although the latter is barely visible) does not fit C. livida. Europe. Everywhere common. Regards, Christoph

Request: Found last weekend in South Poland, at altitude about 750 meters. I think about Ph. calcaratus (glaucus), but I am not sure.
Species, family:
Phyllobius calcaratus
Curculionidae
Comment: Hi Inja, that should be indeed a completely worn off Phyllobius calcaratus (nowadays P. glaucus). North Africa, Europe without the far North, to Sibiria. Common species on deciduous trees and shrubs. Regards, Christoph

Request: Is it possible for further determination ?
Agrilus spec. (Agrilus viridis ?)
Species, family:
Agrilus sp.
Buprestidae
Comment: Hello verstraeten, Agrilus for sure. Not quite sure as to whether this specimen belongs to the viridis-complex. I am not able to go beyond the genus, here. Cheers, Oliver I think we stick to Agrilus sp. here. Regards, Christoph

LG, Christoph

Request: I only knew the green metalic species but this one was completely bronze.
Is this also a Chrysolina fastuosa ?
Species, family:
Phratora sp.
Chrysomelidae
Comment: Hi verstraeten, I think this is a representative of genus Phratora, maybe P. vitellinae, but again this is far from a reliable det. Regards, Christoph

Request: Hallo nochmal,

LG, Christoph

Request: Found last weekend in South Poland, at altitude about 750 meters. I think it is larva of Carabus sp. But maybe it is possible to det deeper ?
Species, family:
Carabus sp.
Carabidae
Comment: Hi Inja, yes, this is a representative of the ground beetles, genus Carabus. To determine the species highly detailed pictures of the head and urogomphi would be required. This is usually only possible with a collected specimen under the binocular. Best regards, Christoph

Species, family:
